The Grand supports 2010/11
The East Kent Child Witness Service supports children who have been called to give evidence in court, either as victims or witnesses. The charity was set up 14 years ago when it was recognised by Kent police, KCC and Victim Support that there was a need to specifically support and prepare vulnerable witnesses in Kent.
The work is carried out by specially trained volunteers who have a wealth of knowledge in the Criminal Justice System and who know how to guide young people through it.
Kent is fortunate to have such a service. Most counties in the country do not have an equivalent service and those children go to court as witnesses without the benefit of any specialist help.
Any child up to the age of 17, who has been called to court as a witness and who lives in Kent is entitled to the help of the Kent Child Witness Service.
Supporting young people through the Criminal Justice System helps them to deal with a very stressful time in their lives and assists them in achieving best evidence when they go to court.
